Este libro del Gran Maestro y entrenador Jacob Aagaard, uno de los mejor autores modernos de libros, aborda el difícil y extenso mundo del Cálculo de Variantes y cómo mejorar la capacidad de un jugador para la táctica y el Cálculo. Es sin duda una de las asignaturas pendientes de todos los aficionados en primer lugar, pero también de maestros y grandes maestros. El autor pasa revista a diversas técnicas que podrán serle de gran utilidad en sus partidas, en algún momento: las Jugadas Candidatas, el Método de Eliminación, el “Desesperado”, el Método de la Comparación, la inversión del orden de jugadas y concede un capítulo a la Visualización y Cálculo con Escalones.

Por último el autor da mucha importancia en el libro a la imaginación y a la creatividad “debemos entrenar nuestra mente y además abrirnos a ciertas formas de pensamiento”.

Un libro construido sólidamente bajo las enseñanzas de su mentor Mark Dvoretsky. La diversidad y profundidad de los consejos y de los ejemplos publicados convierten a este obra en indispensable, para todos los niveles.

AJEDREZ DE ELITE En busca del perfeccionamiento creativo por el GM Viorel Bologan

Nada mejor terminar el año con estas dos propuestas ya disponibles en castellano de dos grandes libros. Feliz año a todos.

Esta primera obra de Viorel Bologan, cuya cima de ELO FIDE se ha situado en varias ocasiones en torno a los 2700, resulta tremendamente didáctica. No se trata sólo de buenas partidas comentadas de un GM de elite rebelde e inconformista, sino de enseñanzas que se extraen de las mismas, y que van sucediéndose a travésde una muy personal y completa biografía del autor, siguiendo un riguroso orden cronológico. Bologan, el brillante vencedor del Supertorneo de Dormund 2003, por delante de Anand, Kramnik y Leko, refleja su filosofía de la vida, su psicología ante el tablero y su crecimiento creativo en su carrera. Todo eso debe servir al buen aficionado para entender más a un jugador de elite que tiene la oportunidad de medirse a la superelite.

Una obra muy especial y honesta, que tiene como protagonista a un ambicioso y talentoso jugador, pues como dice Kasparov en su prólogo se ilustran perfectamente las diferentes etapas de la carrera de Viorel –con sus altibajos creativos–, y muchas ideas ajedrecísticas interesantes que ayudarán a un amplio abanico de jugadores a perfeccionarse.

Glenn Flear reviews Andrey Obodchuk’s labour of love on The Four Knights Game and found it a valuable addition to existing (scarce) theory. He welcomes Nicolai Pedersen’s play the Benko gambit, as this opening is experiencing a revival.

The eternal struggle against the Sicilian has resulted in two new books: Experts on the Anti-Sicilian by various authors, and Gawain Jones’ How to beat the Sicilian defence. According to Flear, the first is a ‘must’, the second has ‘great merit’, so there you are.
