The Kaufman Repertoire for Black and White A Complete, Sound and User-friendly Chess Opening Repertoire by GM Larry Kaufman

Eight years after his acclaimed "The Chess Advantage in Black and White", grandmaster Larry Kaufman is back with a completely new repertoire book, covering the entire scope of chess openings for both White and Black, in one tome.

Using the latest versions of top engines like Komodo and Houdini, the former Senior World Champion and computer expert has refined his analysis of ready-to-go and easy-to-digest lines almost to perfection.

His main new conviction is that 1.d4 gives White better chances of an advantage than 1.e4, and he has changed his recommendations accordingly.

Larry Kaufman has based his repertoire on sound, practical lines that do not outdate rapidly and are suitable for masters while accessibl-e for amateurs. He regularly and successfully uses the openings he recommends himself.
The Kaufman Repertoire for Black and White contains many improvements on existing opening theory and offers a good balance between narrative and variations.
Acclaim for "The Chess Advantage in Black and White":
Carsten Hansen, ChessCafe:“The author has done a very good job at presenting a playable and interesting repertoire for both Black and White.”
John Watson, The Week in Chess:
“Simply the best comprehensive repertoire book that I have ever seen.”

REPERTORIO DE GRANDES MAESTROS 1.d4-Vol.2 [Boris Avrukh]

SOS – Secrets of Opening Surprises 14 Ready-to-go Chess Opening Ideas by Jeroen Bosch (Editor)

Secrets of Opening Surprises brings you a wide variety of unusual opening ideas. They may seem outrageous at first sight, but have proven to be perfectly playable.
An SOS deviates very early from the regular lines in a mainstream opening, usually even before move six! That is why it is so easy to actually bring the variation on the board.
You will baffle your opponent without having studied large quantities of stuffy theory.

Contents:
1 - Jeroen Bosch - The SOS Files
2 - Jeroen Bosch - SOS in the Lasker Defence
3 - Simon Williams - King’s Gambit: Tartakower Variation
4 - Alexander Finkel - An Opening Bomb in the Slav
5 - Dimitri Reinderman - Sicilian Najdorf: the ‘Mejvik Variation’
6 - Sinisa Drazic - A King’s Indian Surprise
7 - Igor Lysyj - Queen’s Indian: Chernyshov’s Line
8 - Jeroen Bosch - An Unusual Taimanov
9 - Maurits Wind - The Mayet Defence
10 - Arthur Kogan - English Opening: Early Inspiration
11 - Alexander Finkel - Caro-Kann Advanced: an SOS Trend
12 - Matthieu Cornette - Grünfeld Fianchetto: a New Idea
13 - Max Illingworth - Sicilian: the Illingworth Gambit
14 - Jeroen Bosch - Avoiding the King’s Indian Sämisch
15 - Sinisa Drazic - Sicilian: the Bücker-Welling Variation
16 - Jeroen Bosch - Fianchetto in the Alekhine Four Pawns
17 - Arthur Kogan - King’s Gambit – a Patzer Check

Readers of this series can ignore large areas of the ever expanding chess opening theory.
They can concentrate on these surprising ideas, because SOS variations deviate very early from the regular lines in mainstream openings.
Ideal for players who don’t have enough time to keep abreast with main line theory.

Rick Kennedy, ChessVille:"For anyone who wants off-beat but sound and energetic ideas to punch up their opening repertoire, SOS is a great tonic."
Paul Motwani, The Scotsman:
"Full of delightful twists which I look forward to trying out myself in future games."
Carsten Hansen, ChessCafe:"The variations can be exceedingly difficult if you are not prepared."
IM Watson, The Week In Chess:"The most entertaining of books about openings that I know of (...) I recommend SOS because it is so much fun, to be sure, but also for its practical utility."
Joe Petrolito, Australian Chess:"These suggestions are very attractive to club players."

Joel Benjamin’s helicopter view on openings swoops to the choices of the 21st century’s World Champions, Vladimir Kramnik and Vishy Anand. After Kasparov’s reign we have now entered the years of 1.d4. Benjamin takes an in-depth look at the 4.Qc2 Nimzo-Indian and the Lasker Variation of the Queen’s Gambit Declined on the highest level.

Book Reviews
Glenn Flear reviews Andrey Obodchuk’s labour of love on The Four Knights Game and found it a valuable addition to existing (scarce) theory. He welcomes Nicolai Pedersen’s play the Benko gambit, as this opening is experiencing a revival.

The eternal struggle against the Sicilian has resulted in two new books: Experts on the Anti-Sicilian by various authors, and Gawain Jones’ How to beat the Sicilian defence. According to Flear, the first is a ‘must’, the second has ‘great merit’, so there you are.
